Building Lots
Designed by landscape architect Tom Wirth, Stonehouse Hill is a community of 6 lots and their common land parcel of walking trails and salt marsh. There is an approved septic test pit on each site. The lots are strategically clustered 1/4 mile in at the quiet, private and peaceful dead end of Schoolhouse Lane -away from the main roads. Along the main road is a 1000 ft perimeter of verdant forest, shielding the community within.
The high point of the forest, in the northwest corner of the community, is 100 feet above sea level. This is where lots 4 and 5 rise under the trees with their multitude of moss-covered rocks dotting the steep ledges and rocky ravines (home to a large population of elves and fairies!) From their high perches both have distant views, in winter, of the Kennebec River. The southwest corner, where the stone schoolhouse is located, is 50 feet above sea level. The elevation of the land gradually descends eastward, crosses the road, traverses across 40-ft, 30-ft and 20-ft elevations until it arrives at the edge of the salt marsh. Lots 1, 2, and 3 share the rocky descent and will have views of the salt marsh. Lot 6 has the verdant forest at its best with blueberries everywhere, very large trees, and a lovely view of the salt marsh.

Lots 1, 2, and 3
Lots 1, 2 and 3 are sold.
Lot 4
Lot 4 is one of the most dramatic of all the parcels. A long crescent driveway winds up through ledges to a sunny blueberry-covered plateau with a distant view of the Kennebec River in winter. Southeast of the plateau a ravine spills down to the base of the site creating a perfect opportunity to bring utility lines up to the site. One of the most wonderful features of the parcel is the quantity of large moss-covered rocks that cascade down the eastern slope from the ravine. Even better, this magical green velvet domain is hidden from the world by a row of trees at the bottom of the parcel. It is the life giving shade, from these trees and the canopy above, that preserves the moisture and sustains the greenness.

Lot 5
Lot 5 stretches across about 40 vertical feet of beautifully verdant topography with lovely views of trees, moss-covered rocks, ferns, and particularly a large rock that serves as a table for a very large family of polypody ferns. The house location rests on a relatively flat spot which will accommodate the house without expensive fill. Another flat area on the south side will accommodate the leach field and invite some sun within, perhaps providing a spot for a garden! There is the possibility of building a separate or connected elevated perch on the ridge. An old logging trail connects to the Stonehouse Hill trail leading to the marsh. The opportunity for an intimate house site with a lofty perch and a lovely east-facing ledge in between makes an exciting opportunity.

Lot 6
Lot 6 is the most verdant parcel, shrouded with blueberries, ground covers (bunchberry and mayflower), and trees of all sizes (including maple, birch, oak, white pine, and spruce.) There is also a lovely view of the salt marsh. This relatively flat parcel exists at about 30 feet above sea level. Rolling topography characterizes this lot with a broad swale running through and a mound for a house site positioned for views to the marsh. Abuts the Stonehouse Hill trail leading east to the marsh or west across Schoolhouse Lane and to the Rhododendron Trail. The proposed driveway is reasonably flat; the proposed septic system is near the proposed house site; and the already-prepared view of the salt marsh could be expanded. This is a lot with comfortable access and a charming woodland feeling.
